I’m particularly interested in incorporating the views of women, non-whites, and people living outside of America and Western Europe, but all responses are invited and welcome. The survey can be accessed at

http://www.johnmaszka.com/SURVEY.html

I would really value your opinion and the opinion of your readers.

Thank you,

John MaszkaDr. John Maszkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16905393599292676151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-51866259766870308322009-05-01T13:21:00.000+01:002009-05-01T13:21:00.000+01:00Sunder, I know you know this, but your wording was...Sunder, I know you know this, but your wording was a little loose there. Men have caring responsibilities too, they just are less likely to do anything substantial about them.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419123871762324443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-80563448048458387402009-04-28T11:29:00.000+01:002009-04-28T11:29:00.000+01:00Very interesting.
Sunder - what do you think of S...Very interesting.

Sunder - what do you think of Scandinavian models of dealing with this issue? I personally think in order to make a real difference we'll have to do something similar, otherwise the gains will just level off or fluctuate with different elections as you suggest.

However, we must remember that simply increasing numbers of MPs is not the same as having women in half the key positions. I suspect there are considerable barriers for women to progress even when they are in parliament. I remember reading that in one Communist regime (I'm afraid I forget which one) representation is decreed at 50%, but no women have an important role.

For Fabian members the local societies tea on 7th July will provide a forum to discuss these and similar issues. Deborah Stoate is organising an all women panel to discuss 'Changing the Culture of Our Politics'. So far Estelle Morris and Jessica Assato have confirmed they will attend.Calixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05754832236324324540noreply@blogger.com
