What Lloyd George might tell Nick CleggTom Hampsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05917325958130851128noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-35289233807865914952010-04-15T09:49:42.142+01:002010-04-15T09:49:42.142+01:00The answer to the seats / votes question is surely...The answer to the seats / votes question is surely votes. <br /><br />A party such as the Lib Dems who take every opportunity to decry an electoral system that does not fairly convert votes cast into seats gained could not then turn around and say they were backing a party with the most seats (but fewer votes) and hope to retain any credibility, at least in terms of consistency.<br /><br />To my mind, the question is at least as important for the Tories as if they were to find themselves in the above situation, how could they continue to pretend that the electoral system worked when it had delivered such a result.<br /><br />Clegg's not going to go any further though because the minute he says 'votes' the media will say that means he's supporting the Tories and vica versa for 'seats'.<br /><br />Not an ideal situation but the best of a bad job imo.Bill Kristol-Ballshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00909399779067445911noreply@blogger.com
