That's when you see the 'Scoop Jackson Democrats' of the Social Democrats USA calling for a new initiative along the lines of the Cold War-era Congress for Cultural Freedom. http://tinyurl.com/dafx5f

I think they set out to undermine that popular mobilisation by using secularism etc as a wedge issue. No doubt some of the concerns about political Islamists and the hard left were valid in themselves, but they were subordinated to a propaganda campaign aimed at serving a neoconservative geopolitical agenda. I have to say, I think that there was a big element of this in the Euston Manifesto.

I appreciate the point about the importance of nuance, but on Martin Bright, I find it hard to see past his documentary hauling out the standard neocon charge sheet against Ken Livingstone, in the midst of an election campaign in which the only possible beneficiary was the distinctly neocon-friendly Boris Johnson.Tom Griffinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10011781723675785154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-53575831639272948932009-03-18T10:52:00.000+00:002009-03-18T10:52:00.000+00:00Good point.Good point.Rachael Jolleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04830594240244312855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-19683665326492045482009-03-17T18:38:00.000+00:002009-03-17T18:38:00.000+00:00Well done for challenging lazy and negative jounal...Well done for challenging lazy and negative jounalism: the easy option is always the cynical one.

These complaints are becoming a habit Sunder!...but one you should keep up.Calixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05754832236324324540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-68605554729619549022009-03-17T17:42:00.000+00:002009-03-17T17:42:00.000+00:00This is a terrific reply. This is a terrific reply.Stuart Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05090728365798166746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985429043801017839.post-59347106576850722282009-03-17T16:14:00.000+00:002009-03-17T16:14:00.000+00:00PWNED.PWNED.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07801341846218646357noreply@blogger.com
