Barack Obama's election as President has generated all sorts of speculation as to possible progressive directions that US social policy might take in the next few years. Is the time ripe for a US version of the Child Trust Fund under which every child receives a grant at birth which accumulates as they grow up to ensure everyone has some capital on their 18th birthday?
An interesting article by Rebecca Tuhus-Dubrow in The Boston Globe discusses the growing interest in this proposal in the US.
Later this year, the Public Policy Unit at Oxford University will be hosting a visit by Reid Kramer of the New American Foundation who will be speaking on this issue. I'll post details nearer the time.
