Don't get married, warns the Daily Mail

It is so very rare that any hint of homophobia sneaks into the Daily Mail, as Peter McKay stressed in recently defending his Ephraim Hardcastle column.

Yet there seems to be much twittering consternation at the bizarre Jan Moir article in today's newspaper, arguing that Stephen Gately's death 'strikes another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships'.

But perhaps it is not just gay marriage we should worry about.

Will nobody give the Daily Mail some credit for its fair and balanced approach?

Take as exhibit A the splendid banner below the masthead on yesterday's Mail front-page, above the 'Equality Law nightmare' splash.

'Why do so many marriages end in the murder courts?'

Perhaps that Mr Dacre is a dangerous liberal subversive after all.

Welcome

Welcome to the Next Left blog from the Fabian Society. We have been writing about policies and politics since the late 19th century. Now we are firmly in the 21st century, starting debates that matter today. As with all Fabian publications, posts on Next Left represent the views of their individual authors, not the collective view of the Fabian Society as a whole.

If you have got an idea, why not drop us a line with a 50 word pitch. It should not have been published previously and should fit with the Next Left ethos.
