Announcing his intentions to resign in 2013, Griffin told the BNP Advisory Council:
"By then I would have been leader of the BNP for 15 years and that is long enough...“It will be time to make way for a younger person who does not have any baggage which can be used against the party.”
With the far right party very disappointed by its failure to secure a Parliamentary breakthrough, or even come second in Barking, where it suffered a massive setback in losing all 12 council seats, Griffin's pre-announcement of his departure looks like a manouvere to try to secure his leadership for three years as the party implodes amid recriminations and in-fighting.
He could well be gone sooner.
So, in anticipation, good riddance!

Still worth noting that they polled double the votes of the Green Party. The threat isn't entirely extinguished.
Quite frankly, we should want to keep him around. He's a buffoon. Things get much worse if the BNP manage to to find someone as crafty as Geert Wilders. Griffin's lack of intelligence and charisma may well be an obstacle to a BNP breakthrough - why get rid of him?
The threat of the BNP will never go away until the debate on immigration can be held at all levels, from ordinary citizen to politicians, without fear of one being branded a 'racist' or a 'BNP supporter'.I am Asian and I am one of the few people who believes that we must sit up and take notice of what it is that makes people support the BNP. The purely 'white supremacist' element of the BNP must rightly be treated with contempt. However, the element of the BNP support that wonders why their jobs and housing are being given to immigrants latterly come instead of those who have been waiting for ages must be listened to. Political parties too bear a responsibility to 'dehumanise' immigrants. At the moment the debate talks about immigrants as if they are a 'faceless bunch of aliens' and people who question their existence are 'racist'. Opposing views will never the twain shall meet.
